Community collaboration has successfully seen the completion of a pedestrian crossing on Back Lane in Hethersett. The zebra crossing has been welcomed by the whole community and construction of the raised crossing alongside the new road markings, associated streetlights and barriers was completed with minimal disruption lasting only 9 weeks.

The crossing will ensure families are able to safely access the fantastic provisions that Hethersett offers, giving safe access to primary and secondary school children as well as access to the Hethersett Jubilee Youth Club.

This crossing will allow families and pupils to walk safely and easily to Hethersett Woodside Primary and Nursery, removing the need for local parents to drop off their children by car and easing congestion around the school at busy pick up and drop off times.

For Hethersett Academy this crossing will now open up the Back Lane playing field for use, previously inaccessible due to the busy road. This crossing will open up more opportunities for outdoor PE education and expand the curriculum offer of the academy.

Head of Hethersett Parish Council, Councillor Bridget Williamson said:

"We are absolutely delighted that this crossing is now in use, and that children and their families have a safe way of crossing Back Lane.  We would like to thank all at Norfolk County Council who have worked so hard to see this project through to completion."

Head Teacher at Hethersett Woodside Primary and Nursery School, Louise Mainwaring said:

"This new crossing will indeed allow children from our Primary and Nursery school easier access onto the school site. It will mean a safer crossing for all, which is fantastic for the whole Hethersett community. Thank you to all involved in getting this project off the ground."

Principal at Hethersett Academy, Jane Diver said:

"This new crossing has been a fantastic project and opens further opportunities for our pupils to be able to access all the facilities at Hethersett Academy. It means we can now safely use the playing field on the other side of the road to the main academy. Thank you to all those that have supported this project."
