County Tennis Smash!
Under-13 girls and Under-15 girls both won the county tennis division 2 beating Sprowston and Notre Dame.
U13 team: Zoe Menegaz Maclean, Sofia Stosic, Mansi J, Verity Hamilton.
U15 team: Jess Armstrong, Jasmine Davey, Abigail Pollington, Morgan Gall.
Boys Rugby
The under-15 boys team from Hethersett were successful in winning the plate, in a competition against 10 other schools. They also came joint 3rd in the Norfolk Cup following a draw in the final game versus Reepham. Two amazing results for our under-15 boys team!
Under-13 boys played well in their county rugby tournament with wins against Aylsham and Neatherd with some really strong performances.
Our under-16 boys rugby team was described as “unbelievable”, finding ways to compete against strong and experienced competition. They were able to get through to the plate semi-final, which was the pinnacle of their day out, their final game against Langley unfortunately went to the opposition.
At the Year 9 Rugby 7s tournament our team played great and gained comfortable victories over Aylsham, Neatherd and Thetford Grammar for a fantastic day of rugby 7s.
Girls Rugby
The under-14 girls rugby team won the Norfolk County Cup, many of the team were brand-new to rugby this year which is a phenomenal achievement. The girls won against Thetford (4-2), Reepham (6-0) and Springwood (2-1).
The same team of under-14 girls (Year 8 & 9) managed to secure the double by also winning the county 7s trophy, to add to the County Cup. Solid victories over Reepham and North Walsham (5-4) in their opening matches set a good platform for the team but tougher games awaited.
Esther Akanbi scored a winning try in the last play of the game against Wymondham College but a last play loss to Aylsham meant the final match Vs Springfield would decide the league with both teams needing a win. Hethersett edged into the lead with a Gabby Andrews try but Springwood hit back and converted to make the score 5-7. Esther managed to force her way over to put Hethersett in the lead and despite a nervous two minutes defending we held on for an outstanding victory.
Tries were scored by Esther, Gabby, Paula and Poppy but magnificent contributions were made by all players. Gabby and the team are seen below receiving the cup from hosts Langley School’s Headmaster, Simon Cooke.
Football
Jess Armstrong celebrated her third year in a row of receiving the player of the tournament trophy at the Inspiration Trust football event, winning in Year 8, 9 and 10. A fantastic achievement for Jess!
Softball Cricket
Our under-15 team of James, Henry, Alex, George, Chester, Jack and Emily won the group stage with two 1 run margins v Framingham Earl and Attleborough. They will now go to the finals day in April to see if they can become Norfolk Champions!
Karate Class
Year 7 completed their first karate grading. Many passed with flying colours including Naeto who was so good he passed two gradings in one go! Congratulations to all of the students that passed their grades, we hope there are many more to come.
NNSP Dance Competition
Fleur recently came first place at the first ever NNSP dance competition in the solo category! She was highlighted as a future star after a breathtaking performance which she had choreographed herself. Huge congratulations to Fleur, she has also been developing her leadership skills by tutoring students in the lower school this year. We are so excited to see her next performance!
Out of school achievements
Verity secured a place at the English Summer National Championship event at the end of July in Sheffield and managed to get a silver in the 14/15 age group 100 metres breaststroke. It was an amazing achievement, with two PBs in the heats and finals, she was one of only two 14 year olds who made the final and was seeded 9th into the final!
Tom Kaiser crossed the line third in the Run Norwich Junior Run (with about 500 runners involved!). He raised £240 along with his siblings for Norwich City Sports Foundation.
Luca El-Labany’s Cycle Speedway racing for Hethersett Hawks has lead him to travel all the way to Coventry where he raced the last round of the Individual British Cycle Speedway Youth Junior League. It was a very tough round against Britain’s best U12 Cycle Speedway riders. Luca won every heat and successfully won the final! This means that he has also been crowned the winner of the 2024 U12 British Youth Junior League (he is a previous U10 winner and British Champion too!), we can’t wait to see him continue to do well.
Hollie Gilbertson represented Norfolk County Swimming at a National Intercounty gala in Sheffield, helping the team move to 5th place in Division 2, also gaining her PB in the 100m backstroke event.
Ella Wright recently competed at the WUKF European Karate Championships in Poland winning two bronze medals, congratulations!
Samuel Brown was the overall champion for Norfolk at the indoor athletics in King’s Lynn.
Rico Kalli is off for a busy Easter holiday as he is playing at the National Tennis Centre this coming weekend, and will be playing at the nationals at Wales later in the holiday. Rico is now ranked 39th in the UK in his age group, 16 and under.
